Dynamic modeling and control of a two-reactor metal hydride energy storage system

Metal hydrides have been studied for use in energy storage, hydrogen and air-conditioning (A/C) systems. A common architecture A/C storage systems is two metal hydride reactors connected to each other so that can flow between them, allowing cyclic of the hydrogen. This paper presents a nonlinear dynamic model multivariate control strategy such system. Each reactor modeled as shell-and-tube heat exchanger circulating fluid, compressor drives reactors. We further develop linear state–space version this integrated with predictive controller determine fluid mass rates pressure difference required achieve desired transfer fluid. series case studies demonstrates track reactor, even presence time-varying inlet temperatures, thereby enabling two-reactor system or integration pump.
